Conflicts happen all the time – at home, at work, between individuals, in teams, in groups, in tribes and between nations. Where there are people, there are conflicts.

Complete Guide to Conflict Management in the Workplace
Have you ever felt distracted, anxious, or frustrated when faced with a conflict with your co-workers or your boss?
Or are you a manager who has to resolve conflicts with your employees or between team members?
The truth is, conflict is an inevitable part of working life and it doesn’t just affect those directly involved, it affects the entire team, department, and organization. How you, and the organization you work for, handle conflict is what ultimately determines the level of productivity and fulfillment you will experience at work.
As a manager or business leader, workplace conflict should be a high priority issue as it leads to lower productivity and high turnover.
In fact, research has shown that conflict in the workplace is cited as the reason people quit their jobs 50% of the time.
And studies have found that the average American employee spends 2.8 hours a week dealing with conflict. Between these two factors, there is a huge loss of income and potential growth.
Conflict at work can be caused by a number of factors, including misunderstandings, poor communication, perceived threats, personality conflicts, a competitive environment, or different values or beliefs.
But, the biggest problem caused by conflict is not the conflict itself, but rather how conflicts are handled – and in many cases not handled at all. Humans are psychologically hardwired to seek pleasure and avoid pain. So, naturally, we avoid dealing with conflicts. The problem is avoiding or mismanaging conflict leads to bigger issues with long term consequences that can harm our psychological well-being and the success of any team or organization.
But not all conflict is inherently bad – in fact, it can be both healthy and beneficial.
When an effective system for managing differences of opinion is in place, conflict can be the source of considerable growth and creativity. When the business environment is one of trust and openness, people see disagreements as an opportunity to find common ground and conflicts as a source of creative solutions. When the fear of win-lose situations is eliminated, win-win situations become a common goal.
Since conflicts are an integral part of business life, it is essential to develop the skills necessary to be able to prevent and manage them. The best way to deal with conflict is to:
Stay ahead of conflicts by preparing
Have a clear process for dealing with conflicts
Provide employees with the tools and skills to manage conflict
In this course you will:
Develop an understanding of common sources of conflict and be aware of the signs to look for, so you can prevent or minimize conflict by detecting it early.
Discover your natural style of dealing with conflict – whether you are pulling back, backing down, competing, compromising or really collaborating and how to change your reactions to be more effective.
Create a psychologically safe work environment in which individuals and teams feel confident in speaking out, making mistakes and speaking out, as they are confident that they will not be reprimanded or ridiculed and that they will be supported in their quest for improvement.
Know when to step in and what are the best and worst times to approach conflict management, including how to defuse a conflict that has become inflamed or emotional, without reacting emotionally yourself.
Facilitate conversations about conflict resolution, using powerful communication skills and knowing the important mistakes to avoid.
You will also learn the 6 stages of conflict resolution, including important conflict resolution skills such as:
Effective listening and communication skills
Essential problem-solving strategies
Monitoring and advancement strategies to ensure that resentment does not persist and conflicts do not recur
Managing conflict with skill and confidence
Conflict is inevitable. It is a fact of life and most people fear it. But you don’t have to be. Conflicts arise from disagreement or simply from a difference. This course will give you everything you need to prevent or manage conflict, whether it is yourself or others.
Conflict is extremely costly for organizations, damaging to relationships and disastrous for productivity. It could be an argument between a supervisor and a member of their team, a personality clash between colleagues or even a power conflict between different departments. Wherever they arise, conflict is a major cause of stress in the workplace and can lead to long-standing grievances, factionalism and absenteeism.
Confident conflict resolution skills will set you apart. Being able to effectively manage conflict, no matter the situation, is an ability that will help you build strong and constructive working relationships and improve the overall performance of your team, group, or department.
This course features easy-to-learn tactics, clearly explained by Barry Winbolt, a trainer and mediator, based on his 30 years of experience dealing with conflict in the workplace in different contexts and cultures.
In a series of engaging videos, he explains the pitfalls that cause conflict and the patterns that lead to escalation. He shows you how to avoid these frustrating cycles of argument and resistance. It then provides a comprehensive toolkit for creating positive results through conversations that build trust rather than divide people. It explains why early intervention is best, how to skillfully handle disputes before they get out of hand, and turn them into meaningful conversations.
By the end of this course, you will have a better understanding of conflict, which will reduce any uncertainty you may have in resolving it. This will put you at the front of the pack; positive conflict management skills are a key part of leadership.
