MikroTik LABS for Beginners
Do you want to configure MikroTik RouterOS and you don’t know where to start? Is your task to perform the basic configuration on the MikroTik router but you don’t know how to use it? If so, then this course is for you.
I have designed this course to help you have direct contact with MikroTik products. This is intended for beginners who have no previous experience or knowledge of MikroTik products.
In this course you will learn many different topics such as knowing the different types of RouterBoards products, what RouterOS is, how to get 1st access to the MikroTik router using Winbox, Telnet and SSH, how to configure the router to provide access Internet inside users, how to backup and restore configuration, how to re-flash the MikroTik RouterOS, what are the different license levels available in MikroTik and much more.
To be able to take this course, it is ideal to have 2 MikroTik routers, otherwise you can use GNS3 with CHR images.
If you want to start learning MikroTik, this course is the best place to start.
You will learn:
Understand what MikroTik is and where it is located
Understand the difference between RouterOS and RouterBOARD
Know how to get 1st access on the MikroTik router using WebFig
Understand how to use Quick Set to operate your router
Understand how to use the Winbox utility to connect to the router via the MAC address
Understand the difference between Telnet and SSH and how to use them to connect to the MikroTik router
Understand the basic command line syntax on the MikroTik terminal
Know how to connect the MikroTik router to the Internet
Understand how to configure the DHCP client
Understand how to share the Internet with LAN PCs using NAT
Be able to troubleshoot Internet connection issues on your MikroTik router and your LAN PCs
Know how to upgrade the RouterOS in 3 different ways
Understand the function of the RouterBOOT and how you can upgrade it
Understand how to create custom users and groups
Understand how to use public and private keys to connect through SSH
Managing RouterOS services
Understand the difference between binary backup and export
Understand how to reset RouterOS configuration from Winbox
Understand how to perform a hard reset on RouterOS routers
Understand how to use Netinstall to reflash MikroTik RoutersOS
Understand the different types of licenses for RouterOS and CHR
Starting an ISP with MikroTik
Many of you would like to set up an ISP or maybe work for an ISP to distribute internet service to customers. For this, you need a lot of technical knowledge to be able to:
Access the internet at customer premises using technologies such as DHCP or PPPoE
Assign each client a bandwidth speed
Configure the ISP router to be able to split the bandwidth per client using VLAN and QOS.
Sometimes helping customer configure Queuing on their bandwidth to give each user on their LAN equal / unequal bandwidth.
For that, I designed this course to explain in depth all these topics. My lectures will be based on the following theory of practical LABs to show you how you can configure these things on the MikrotTik router. The LABs are based on a step by step with a very user friendly manner so that you can understand the content in an easy way.
All LABs will be based on real MikroTik equipment and each LAB will be tested at the end of each setup to check if the goal is achieved as we want it to.
During the course, I’ll explain in detail and with LABS everything related to DHCP, PPPoE, NAT, VLAN, QOS using PCQ queuing, Mangle using Prerouting / Postrouting and much more.
You will learn:
Understand in depth what DHCP is and how it works
Understand in depth what PPPoE is and how it works
Understand how to use DHCP and PPPoE to distribute the Internet to clients
Understand how to use Mangle with queeing QOS to assign each client a bandwidth speed while uploading and downloading
Understanding the use of the PCQ queue
Understand what VLAN is and how to configure it on MikroTik
Understand the function of access ports and trunk ports when using VLANs
Understand how to use VLAN with DHCP and PPPoE to distribute the Internet to clients
Understand what is the need for Network Address Translation (NAT) and why we should use it
Introduction to MikroTik RouterOS
This course will cover all the MTCNA requirements defined by Mikrotik.
This is the first level of certification to obtain if you want to achieve the most advanced certifications.
This will help you prepare for the mikrotik mtcna exam.
You will also be familiar with all the features of mikrotik and how to configure them for most networks.
We will install and configure the firewall filtering rules, nat rules, queues.
I will teach you the basics of networking including the OSI model in detail and Ipv4 networks in detail.
We will also look at the more basic setup and configuration of mikrotik routers.
