How to create a Slack bot to automate tasks for you

There are so many aspects of business that can be automated with Slack.

What does automating a task mean?

Imagine being able to take charge of a process in your business and being able to have a robot not only do it for you, but also do it perfectly every time. Not to mention that your bot can run 24/7, often complete tasks much faster than a human, and check for system updates every few seconds instead of hours or days. a.k.a. the perfect employee.

What types of tasks can be automated in Slack?

Almost anything you can think of. You are only limited by your creativity.

Suppose a customer wants to know his balance on his account. They might email you and then you respond. Or you can give them a slash command to collect their balance whenever they want.

Maybe a developer needs to log the working time. They could go into an accounting system and manually enter that time, then send a message to a project manager to tell them that they have completed their task. Or … you can give that developer a single custom slash command that will do all of these tasks for them.

So what are we going to learn in this course?

Suppose you have a business where employees can submit purchase requisitions for whatever they want. They would normally fill out a form, give it to a secretary, who would then pass it on to the CEO for a decision. This secretary must then give this feedback to the employee who requested the purchase.

The secretary will also monitor all purchase requisitions, so if the CEO forgot to make a decision on any of them, that secretary will remind the CEO.

In this course, we’re basically going to code all of that flow, mostly turning the human secretary into a Slack robot. So the only human beings who will use the system are the CEO and the employee making the purchase request.
