Postman: The Complete Guide – REST API Testing
RESTful APIs (or just REST API) are everywhere these days, but at the same time, they are getting more and more complex to begin with: different HTTP methods, headers, cookies, handling file downloads or authentication with api keys, tokens, OAuth, etc. much more.
But before you start spending time writing code to retrieve the data offered by the API, why not test the request first to make sure everything is working as expected?
This is where the Postman app comes in! Postman allows you to very quickly create a request with the required HTTP method and parameters, submit the request, and easily inspect the results.
Postman can also help you if you are developing APIs! I created this course for test engineers and for software developers. Postman can help you during the development of your API as well as after the API terminates, by running tests to ensure that your API still works as expected.
In the first part of the course, we will start exploring the functionality of Postman and continue writing API tests with the intention of integrating them into a CI server where the tests will be run on a current basis.
But this is not the normal course in which you participate. Since your needs may be different and I hate to leave you wondering what to do next, Part 2 of the course will include user questions and answers to issues that have not yet been covered in the course or that are more specific and may not be of interest to everyone.
So let’s see what you’ll learn:
Start with simple requests and work your way to more complex scenarios
Learn how to manage authentication / authorization mechanisms like Basic authentication, API keys, or OAuth.
Start writing API tests
Organize tests into collections and share them with your team
Run API tests in Jenkins or any other CI server
So after this course you will know how to use Postman like a pro.
Quick introduction to Postman for beginners

In this Crash Postman Course for Beginners, we’ll start exploring Postman’s features, building queries, and building simple workflows. Then, we’ll continue by writing API tests and automatically running a Postman collection using the Postman Collection Runner.
So let’s see what you’ll learn:
Start with simple requests and work your way to more complex scenarios
Learn how to manage authentication (example using the Bearer token)
Start writing API tests
Organize tests into collections and share them with your team
Run API Tests Using Collection Execution
So after this course you will get an overview of Postman and then be able to decide which areas you want to learn more about.
